Here we go friends. I think this post is more for me than for you guys, considering I don't really know what I'm doing but I'll learn fast!
Delighted Lives (Amanda + some lovely freshman girls who love Jesus) made me this sweet "travel guide" to bring with me to the DR. Since none of you will see it until I return, I thought I'd incorporate tidbits from this fantastic little book into this blog. The guide starts with a journal section filled with random questions I'll answer before I leave. I liked this page: Make a bucket list of things you'd like to do while there. I'm sure this list will get super long as I go, but right now here's what I've got.
1) learn a new game; come back and teach it to Timaree + everyone else.
2) swim in waterfalls (and the ocean duh)
3) Make a Dominican friend (piece of cake, right?)
4) make an American meal for my host family (hamburgers? chili?)
5) learn to cook something Dominican
6) Ask faith questions in Spanish (vague, but I know they'll take shape later)
7) learn to dance the merengue
My goals for this blog are... to include a picture and/or video in each post, update at least once each week, give you something like a high and low for that day/week, end with a verse/ something God's teaching me.
So, considering I'm sitting in snowy Wisconsin with my family, I have not yet embarked on this exciting journey. I got a bright Husker red suitcase yesterday and packed it full of clothes and little bits of home. The next step is to teach mom to skype.
Today I learned that my host family lives in a "nicely furnished 3 bedroom apartment" There are two kids, not sure if they live at home but their names are Lena and Victor. They're in their early 20s (yay, friends?!) and attend Pontifical Universidad Catolica- Madre y Maestra, just like me! My host home is a 5-10min walk from campus, and there are a few other study abroad students living in the same neighborhood, so that's pretty sweet.
Well I just wanted to get started so I'll update you dear amigos in a week or so after I arrive in Santiago! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail."
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. Luke 1
